Unlock Success With My 3-S Formula

(Press play to listen to this podcast episode above, or enjoy reading below.)

Today’s show is real talk for women who love Jesus and fitness but can’t seem to get to their goals…

If I had a nickel for every time someone asked me what the secret to success was, I’d have a million dollars!

Success with losing weight, toning up, leaning out, landing a magazine cover, starting a business, book, or podcast.

People reach out to me in desperation and beg me to give them the secret, but sweet friend, it does not exist!

So why is it so hard to make healthy living a habit?

Even when we’re armed with our greatest determination and countless diet and training plans, it should be easy; but it’s not.

Somewhere between setting fitness goals and facing reality, we trade healthy habits for quick-fix gimmicks and temporary results.

But where is Jesus in any of this?

I left Him out of my goals for far too long.

My painful battle with losing weight and keeping it off led me to dark, desperate places where I tried diet pills and every fad diet I could find, and the end result was weight gain, frustration, and further self-loathing. Weighing myself daily, the number on the scale would determine my mood until God showed me how incredibly unhealthy this was and how to stop the vicious cycle.

I know how hard this is.

Even when we know better, we get tripped by the easy way out, quick-fix gimmick, could it be true will it work, it’s like they get us in our low points and it’s just too irresistible for us not to try it right?

Just as I did, I want to help you trade the crazy chaos for success as a fearfully and wonderfully made woman of God.

In prayer, God gave me this to give to you.

My Success Equation:

Seek + Surrender + Show Up  = Success

Seek God + Surrender it Daily to Him + Show Up for Him = Success

(This formula applies to any life goals: finances, marriage, parenting, etc.)

Think about these 3 questions:

  1. Are you seeking God’s wisdom, purpose, and direction in your goals?
  2. Are you surrendering your goal daily to God and relying on HIs provision, timing, and strength?
  3. Are you showing up in the Spirit to slay the day? Are you doing your part?

Let’s break this apart and take a look at each one of the three:

Seek, Surrender, and Show Up from a Biblical perspective.

Seek

Seek Him for the how-to and the want to.

God promises to give you wisdom. People get stuck here, trying to find the secret or the right plan or program.

Seek Him in prayer about everything: What He made your body to eat, what foods your body thrives on, seek Him in your emotions and excuses to steady you, heal your hurts from past attempts and calm your confusion, fears, and anxieties.

The biblical foundation for Seek:

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. (Jer. 29:13)

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. (Matt. 6:33)

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. (Matt.7:7-12)

And without faith, it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. (Heb. 11:6-7)

Surrender

Surrendering our goals to God means we admit that He is ultimately in control of everything.  Surrendering to God helps us to let go of whatever has been holding us back from God's best for our lives.

Biblical Foundation for Surrender

Be still, and know that I am God. (Ps. 46:10)

A man’s heart plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps. (Prov.16:9)

The steps of a man are ordered by the LORD, and He delights in his way. (Ps. 37:23)

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. ( James 4:7)

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.(John 15:5)

Show Up

Showing up means we own our part and put a plan together, we act and we overcome the excuses, laziness (sorry for the tough love)  and live with discipline.

Biblical Foundation for Show Up:

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. (1 Cor. 9:24-27)

Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established. (Prov. 16:3)

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men. (Colossians 3:23)

I can do all things through him who strengthens me. (Phil. 4:13)

Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. (Ps. 37:4)

My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man. (Prov.3:1-4)

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you. (James 4:10)

Put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. (Col. 3:10)

Where do you need to seek, surrender, and show up?

  • Is it eating, making healthy meals, eating smaller portions?
  • Is it making movement and workouts a part of your daily life?
  • Is it your motivation to show up and with the right motives?
  • Is it breaking free from the habits that need to go?
  • Is it just believing in yourself again?

Have you ever written your definition of success in this area?

Creating your version of success is powerful!

As women of God, success looks different from the world's definition, because success with God actually satisfies you.

A Godly definition of success is living in His will and His ways, committed to nourish and move your body, (His temple) to activate and accomplish every good thing He has planned for you. Godly success fulfills the depth of your heart, because it's all about Him.

Erma Bombeck said this beautifully...

When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left but could say I’ve used everything you gave me.

I want that to be me. How about you?

I want to pray for you, sweet friend, I don’t want you to miss a single thing God has planned for you.

Dear God,

Remind us that striving for any goal apart from you is like trying to grasp the wind...

Only YOU  know the way, only you have the perfect plan, and Only You know exactly what each of us needs to do to be our best for you.

Today, in you we redefine success as seeking you first, surrendering our goals to you, and show up in the spirit to slay the day.

 In Jesus’ name, amen.

Okay now you know I’m never going to leave you without asking you to get into action…nothing happens without action and I’m here to be your accountability partner.
