Are you living the life you feel called to live? This can be a painful question for some – stuck in jobs they dislike, struggling with negative self-talk, grappling with the fear of going for their dream – the list is endless.

I know, because I’ve been there. I used to go to a coffee shop and sit and write. I knew I wanted to write a book, but I had a moment when I realized I wasn’t being true to me. The words that poured out of me may have sounded impressive, but the truth is I was writing what sounded good, what I thought people wanted to hear instead of writing what I really wanted to say.

Maybe you’re experiencing a similar situation? You’re living in a manner that might look good from the outside or to impress people, but are you really happy and are you living in your purpose?

Let me tell you, the relief that came with writing what was true to me – was amazing. Be yourself – not your idea of what you think somebody else thinks you should be. God knows who you really are and it’s time to know who you are in Him. Our life is our race, and we need to run to win, but too often one of the following happens:

You get stuck going around the same turn.

Are you having the same conversations with yourself and your friends for years, but you’re not doing anything about this issue? Throw off whatever’s holding you back, and give it to God. From excuses, to hang ups and downright laziness, only He can make us strong enough to get unstuck. Ask yourself why not? Why can’t I get passed this and even better what would my life be like if I did? I came to a place with my weight loss where I couldn’t even listen to my own excuses anymore, I was sick of saying the same things and not doing anything about it. Once I conquered my weight battle, by surrendering it to God, I was able to make the right choices for the right reasons. If you’re stuck, will you give what’s holding you back to him today?

Are you procrastinating at the starting line?

Maybe today you want to start a new goal but you’re trying to go into this new goal with an old mindset. You can’t be who you were and become who you want to be, so the old you must go. Are you fearful, are you procrastinating, or are you thinking success is for other people? God’s word says all of these are wrong. One of the scriptures I lean on most says, Fear not for I am with you, Be not dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Start today, right now – make a list of one thing you can do every day to take a step closer to the person you were made to be.

Are you trying to run someone else’s race?

When we don’t know who we are, we try to be someone else. Are you trying to be like someone else or are you being true to you – true to the fearfully and wonderfully made child of God you were created to be with all your uniqueness and gifts? Nothing in life steals our joy more than trying to be like someone else. Make a conscious decision today to prayerfully ask God what you were born to do. I have a saying, ”There’s only one you – no one can ever be you and that makes you so unique and special.” God doesn’t make mistakes. You were created on purpose for a purpose.

1 Cor 9:24

Do you believe you can finish your race?

Do you doubt your ability and torture yourself with worrying about what people will think or if you can really do this? It’s like taking one step forward and one step backward, you end up not going anywhere…

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.” – James 1:5-8

We can’t be double-minded! If you know you’re called to do something, then believe in faith all the way to the finish line.

There’s a common phrase that says “Do You”, and though it’s funny –there’s so much truth in it. Don’t try to be anyone else, don’t shy away from who you are, and commit to be true to yourself. God has a specific plan and purpose for you, so pray, persevere and keep going in faith.

Running your race should liberate you. If you take each step with your eyes fixed on Jesus, you’re training for a prize that lasts.
