Cathy Savage Fitness was born out of a fierce combination of business sense and fitness experience. Coupling her Marketing degree and background as a fitness competitor, professional dancer, and strength training coach, Cathy Savage Fitness was founded. Cathy works furiously for her girls preparing them for the stage, so let’s put the spotlight on this wonderful woman who makes fitness dreams come true. Her tremendous wisdom and viewpoints on mothering and fitness are admirable. When you compete in fitness or when you own your own business; they can take over your life and make family come second. Not for Cathy, who has her priorities straight. She values relationships and stresses their importance over titles and trophies. “My mission is to provide a competitive, yet memorable experience for anyone I coach. A trophy is a great thing but meeting new friends and creating memories are far more important.” What I admire most is that even though she runs her own business, her kids know they come first, she never tells her children, “I’m busy” or “I have to work.”

Thank you Cathy for taking the time to inspire women and mothers to be balanced and healthy and for teaching them to do it the right way.

Kim: Share a little about you.

Cathy: I’m a Mom who lives in Boston, Massachusetts with my husband, John and our two kids, Ryan age 9 and Tori age 7 (almost 8). I’m a competitive fitness coach for women and men globally in person and online. I own my own gym named Cathy Savage Fitness in Norwood, Mass which is located about 30 minutes south of Boston. I created CAMP SAVAGE, which is an all-inclusive fitness, figure, bikini and model prep camp, 16 years ago. I travel all around the world holding these weekend camps but I l especially love to hold them in my gym, aka “the mothership” which is solely dedicated to aspiring competitors. When women enter the gym, they are inspired by all the pictures of SAVAGE GIRLS on the wall and they know why they are there! I am a graduate of Boston College as well. I could go on and on… lol

Kim: Have you gone through a transformation?

Cathy: As a 48-year-old woman, I was a ” victim” of severe peri-menopause for the past few years. Eating right, working out and taking care of myself wasn’t enough. This year, I made some dramatic changes by implementing organic products as well as sleeping more. I personally and physically have transformed into a healthier place through respecting that even I need time for myself sometimes and its OK!

Kim: How did you get your body back post-baby?

 

 

Cathy: Having my first baby at 39 was a complete shock to my body. Trauma central! Having a c-section didn’t help the situation. Shortly after the birth of my son, I tried to have my second baby! I was now 40 years old and it just didn’t happen right away in fact, it didn’t happen at all! After a year of fertility clinics and a 20 lb weight gain from injections etc, I found myself in a place that I had never been in. After a year of fertility, we called it a day and adopted our beautiful daughter who was 5 months old at the time.

Kim: Anything you’ve accomplished you would like to share?

 Cathy: My biggest accomplishment is that I do it all…. Literally.. No nanny, no au pair.. just my husband and I, raising our kids in a loving home.My kids know they come first and even though, I run a very exciting and thriving business, I never tell my kids, “I’m busy” or “I have to work”.

This past year, I took my kids to the Fitness Universe in Miami. While my family chilled on South Beach, I was working like a maniac to make sure my girls were ready for their show. The best part was that at night, I could tuck them in and sleep together. I loved doing this and I plan to make sure all my fitness trips are now family trips as much as possible! now, I say I do it all… but it isn’t easy and I respect anyone who gets the help they need. I wish I could get the laundry done sooner and cook more extravagant meals but we manage it all.

Being a business owner, and raising kids are two full-time jobs. Adding in the “wife” role is now a 3rd job. But somehow I manage to get 8 hours of sleep each night…it CAN be done!

I have achieved so much in the fitness industry yet I don’t want my kids to ever feel like “Mom worked a lot when I was young” so I really am proud that I have finally created a balance.

 

Kim: What is your favorite fit-mom, fit-family meal? Snack? Any go to items?

 Cathy: My favorite healthy meal is my favorite family meal! I make ground turkey burgers on the grill, and throw my colored peppers (orange, red, yellow and green) into a skillet. I toss in some onions and We are good to go! The kids have so much fun throwing the cut veggies into the grill and this has been a fun activity of ours. My favorite family snack is apples, sliced with a teeny tiny splash of caramel on top! This is my kids’ favorite after school treat. I always have an Isagenix chocolate cream crisp bar in my purse. Its organic and acts like a meal replacement so its perfect when I get stuck somewhere!

Kim: Favorite Fit-Family activity?

 

Cathy: We are water people! We love to play sports on the beach or by the pool. Football, volleyball, running- as long as it is near water, count us in!

We also live near a high school and we love to go to the track as a family and run in friendly races.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

“After the running, my daughter and I run bleachers and my husband and son kick around a football. We make it a point to do this at least twice a week!”

 

Kim: How do you stay fit amidst a hectic schedule and manage to do it all?

Cathy: 5 words – “you do what you can”. I have clients who manage to workout a lot longer than me, and they have more kids than I do. I applaud anyone who can literally stick to ANY regimen, even if it’s a ten minute workout each day.“I feel “circus” music is my theme song as I juggle it all but I truly feel I wouldn’t want it any other way! I have a dream job that is more of a passion and a labor of love so I literally don’t know any other way than to be busy!”

 

Kim: Words of motivation and inspiration for other moms?

 Cathy: Oh this is a good one! “Stretch marks are a badge of honor:”

Embrace your body post baby even if it isn’t perfect. For what your body went through, is a miracle. Stay “healthy” and focus on that word more than looking a certain way.

Your life became more important now that you are a MOM and its a beautiful gift. Being a Mom is the most incredible thing that ever happens to a woman. You will never know love of this magnitude and this is the greatest motivator of all.

Don’t waste a minute worrying about the small stuff. After a stressful day, look at your children and just know that they don’t see any imperfections-they love you just the way you are!
