How to Trade Comparison for Confidence

Talking to my girlfriend yesterday, she said, “I’m on Instagram and all these pictures of fit women are depressing me!”

Isn’t it easy to get caught up in the images and feel less than?

As women, it’s common to compare ourselves to one another. But it is wrong, and we cannot please God when we do it. Comparison goes against the Word of God because either we think we’re better than someone else, which is pride, or we feel insecure, which goes against our identity of worthiness in Christ. There are actually three views of every woman: the view that God has of us, the opinions that others hold concerning us, and the perception we have of ourselves.

God made us all in His image with different strengths and physical attributes, and God doesn’t make mistakes. Don’t waste time trying to be or look like someone else. God knew exactly what He was doing when He created you. When you base your own view on God’s view of you and find your confidence in Christ, you become the happiest, healthiest, and best you possible.

Let everyone be sure that he is doing his very best, for then he will have the
personal satisfaction of work well done and won’t need to compare
himself with someone else.
—Galatians 6:4 TLB
So don’t lose your confidence, since it holds a great reward for you.
—Hebrews 10:35 ISV

The song, “He knows my name” is my go to jam when I’m feeling, less than. Have you heard it? For me, positive music is so important during a workout—it seems to be the sustaining factor that pushes me to a more intense level. Here I am working out to it at home between writing assignments.

Will you give yourself the gift of compassion and trade comparing for confidence? Oh and be sure to put the song on your playlist!

“He Knows My Name”

Spent today in a conversation

In the mirror face to face with

somebody less than perfect

I wouldn’t choose me first if

I was looking for a champion

In fact I’d understand if

You picked everyone before me

But that’s just not my story

True to who You are

You saw my heart

and made

Something out of nothing

I don’t need my name in lights

I’m famous in my Father’s eyes

Make no mistake

He knows my name

I’m not living for applause

I’m already so adored

It’s all His stage

He knows my name oh, oh,

He knows my name oh, oh

I’m not meant to just stay quiet

I’m meant to be a lion

I’ll roar beyond a song

With every moment that I’ve got

True to who You are

You saw my heart

and made

Something out of nothing

He calls me chosen, free forgiven, wanted, child of the King,

His forever, held in treasure…

I am loved

I don’t need my name in lights…

I’m famous in my Father’s eyes…
