Faith and Fitness – The Long-Term Solution to Getting FIT

F.I.T. 10 Steps to Your Faith Inspired Transformation, shares that I believe wholeheartedly in connecting faith with fitness – and I learned this the hard way! I would try fad diets and struggle in my own strength trying to avoid carbs and do workouts I didn’t enjoy to achieve a number on the scale.

For years, I thought if I made myself look good on the outside, I would feel good on the inside – but I found nothing could be further from the truth. Chasing perfection only made me unhappy, because perfection is an insatiable lie the world tells us – that what God made isn’t good enough.

F.I.T. (Faith Inspired Transformation), the book and DVD, came from all the trial and error I experienced trying quick-fix diets, extreme exercise plans and focusing on numbers more than my health. Finally by surrendering this all to God, I found the answer, and let me tell you, it’s the only one that lasts…

My mission to unite faith and fitness comes from the Bible. Paul describes the Christian life in terms of athletic metaphors. See 1 Corinthians 9:26-27. In studying Paul, I had a revelation, and in my new book, I share how by disciplining our bodies through our faith, our body is able to come under our control.

“An athlete leads their body, they do not follow it. It is their slave, not the other way around.”

If you’re an athlete, you can’t live by what your body wants. You follow specific guidelines, not the changing desires of your body, and you let your well-informed mind dictate what your body does or does not do. You exercise when you’d rather rest; you eat healthy, balanced food when you would rather eat fast food; you sleep when you would rather stay up late; and you get up early to train when you would rather stay in bed.

Ask yourself, “Am I controlling my body, or is it controlling me?” This is how and why faith and fitness work together beautifully. We need our faith to make us strong enough to not be enslaved to our bodies. Our flesh is weak. Anyone who’s been on a diet knows that will power doesn’t last.

Faith makes all the difference: Faith says, I believe without seeing. It waits with expectancy and trusts that God is working and honoring our efforts. Without faith, we struggle in our own limited strength and live without hope, but when we tap into the freedom and power we have in God, we can live an absolutely amazing life!

God gave us our bodies and He calls them His temple. So we need to take care of ourselves.

I believe the word of God is the only way we can bring our body under our control – everything else is just a temporary answer with fleeting results. The Bible is our manual for life. Maybe it seems like an old book that doesn’t apply to your life, but trust me, it has every answer you need.

Take a look at some of my favorite scriptures:

“Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill His promises to her.”

– Luke 1:45

“She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong.”

– Proverbs 31:17

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and self-discipline.”

– 2 Timothy 1:7

“Do not fear for I am with you; do no be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

– Isaiah 41:10

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Lean not on your own understanding. Acknowledge Him in all your ways and He will direct your path.”

– Proverbs 3:5-6

The Bible isn’t “just a book,” and fitness is so much more than working out. If we adjust our fitness focus from merely the physical to cultivating an inner strength and discipline through the word to make the right choices, we will tap into the power to get results and the health, happiness we all crave.

You must know that you were created on purpose, for a purpose. Wherever you are right now, isn’t it wonderful to know that God has you there for a reason? I have a saying, “God doesn’t make mistakes! There is only one you, no one can ever be you and that makes you so unique and special. Embrace the person God made you to be.”

May I encourage you to read my book, 10 Steps to Your Faith Inspired Transformation and combine you faith with your fitness and experience God in a whole new way.

I hope you stay awhile and share your thoughts. I love hearing from you.

Get Healthy, Happy & Fit God’s Way,
