I recently interviewed my amazing friend Angelike Norrie on the Strong. Confident. His. Podcast and I thought it was so important to share this with you all. Angelike is a five-time cover model, a top corporate executive, a world-renowned martial artist, and a mom of three! We talked about everything from her kiddos to God, and I am so excited to share this Q&A with you! If you're struggling with getting fit or fear chasing your dreams, this is for you.

You have three children and you've been on the cover of five magazines. So I want out of the gate to share with people where you always fit. Have you ever struggled?

I absolutely struggled. As a matter of fact, it's funny because we were at my in-law’s house yesterday putting up Christmas decorations. We're temporarily in Florida right now as we build a house in Texas. So my husband started going through pictures and he found a bunch of photos and I said,  "look at how heavy I was like I was swollen and inflamed". Some of the pictures were from when I was younger and that was probably where I started to start thinking about it. I did not eat well, I didn't know any better. I would get overweight, and then I would try to get ready for an event doing some crash diet or crash cardio. That was before I knew anything about proper nutrition and working out, and I absolutely struggled. My dad was a very fit man, who's an athlete, but my mom was not, and she was always very thin until her later years when she was a little bit heavier. Both sides of my family were not healthy, they didn't look like the picture of health, they didn't take care of themselves.

Why do you think we fall for the quick fixes?

Because our environment is the world even though we're not of it, we're in it. And we're constantly being forced fed imagery and ideas, advertisement and everything that tells us that that's the way it is. And that's a completely perverted message about God's order and design. I teach to live turned on, and it all goes back to him. He's the master switch for turning on all the other switches in your life.

Why Don’t We Do It Through The Church?

I just finished a book called Fit God's way. And it's a Bible-based plan for food, fitness, and wholeness. We do parenting through the church. We do marriage through the church. We do finances through the church. So, why aren't we doing our health and body image through the church?

Why are we not being taught to be stewards of our bodies? Are children being taught wholeness in the way God created them from the get-go? No. I mean, when I look back on my life, dieting is the way the world does health. But in the church and the word of God, this is how we do health, we receive food with thanksgiving, we steward our bodies because he made them were his masterpiece, we're His temple.

What are your thoughts on this?

So let's, use that philosophy. When it comes to eating, I saw you make a post the other day about this, and it was so good. You talked about inviting Jesus to eat with you and how if you were sitting in His presence you wouldn't be scrolling through your phone and stuffing your face. No, your heart would be full of gratitude, you would enjoy your food with thanksgiving. Dieting is not God's design. So when I'm present and aware of what I'm feeling in my body, I can be intuitive in what my body is asking for, then I make better choices

If fitness is a place of struggle to you fear chasing your dreams, let this serve as a reminder, write this scripture down, write it across your heart. It's Ephesians 2:10.

“For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us in you in Christ Jesus so we can do the things he planned for us long ago.”

Some of the scriptures some of the different translations say handiwork instead of a Masterpiece. So think about that you are hand-designed by Him, you are His Masterpiece, you are a piece of the Master, let that flood you with confidence with strength. Let that turn the lights on where there is darkness right now!

Angelike shares advice for those who are struggling to get fit or fear chasing their dreams.

Here’s a sample…

Your success doesn’t come from a photoshoot, color palette, logo, or a well crafted post, and it doesn't come from being a watered-down version of a mentor. Your next big moment or move is not going to come through someone else’s handiwork, it will come from God and your radical obedience to carry out His assignment.

Scriptures and quotes to motivate you from this episode:

“Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.”  (Romans 5:3-5)

If you feel guilt about success, don’t think you deserve it, or sabotage it, remember this...the victory is His. In our faithfulness, He is producing something beautiful in us.

“And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm, and steadfast.” (1 Peter 5:10)

“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:57)
